HAD TO SAY………..
There were several reviews in the daily
English papers describing the show to be on par with
international shows. It was hailed by these critics
as a show that was well organized, presented and well
sung by Keerthi. Both Sunday Leader and Daily Mirror
were of the same opinion.
Excerpts of an article written by Sajith
Mutucumarana to the Daily Mirror are reproduced hereunder:-
“The show started almost on time
giving it a professional touch. The first impact as
the curtains rose, drawn to the sides rather, was brilliant
I thought with Keerthi Pasquel dressed in an immaculate
white dress with guitar in hand perched on a high stool
with a white spot focused on him on center stage.
The first half of the show had a mixture
of slow and fast songs all dished out beautifully, “Rantharupayana”
being the best for me. By this time everybody was itching
to hear Keerthi’s latest hit “Kandula”
which was tactfully held till the second half of the
show. And tears did come down many a cheek when “Kandula”
started rolling on stage to a thundering applause….
Keerthi sang five duets, each with
Chandralekha Perera, Dhammika Bandara, Deepika Priyadarshani,
Charitha Priyadharshanee Peiris and Best Actress Damitha
Aheyratne. The song “Nil Ahas Thale” which
Keerthi sang with a bevy of boys and girls, understandably
from the orphanage, struck an emotive chord in the hearts
of many.
Overall I had witnessed a very soothing
and well-coordinated show. There were hardly any delays
between items. Well done Keerthi, it was worth the four
years….”
Excerpts of what Dilki Wettewe had
to say in the Sunday Leader are given below:-
“Keerthi Gee, the milestone which
marked the re-entrance of Keerthi Pasquel, was a clever
showcase for the singer’s versatile skills as
a talented musician, singer, guitarist, music composer
and above all a human being. After four years abroad,
Keerthi returned to the spotlight with a phenomenal
performance that emphasized to his fans that he is still
very much the acclaimed singer that critics profess
him to be. In a word the show was ‘fantastic’.
The listeners were more or less carried
far away from the harsh realities of this world for
just one memorable evening. His songs so simple and
beautiful, the lyrics touching and revealing, the tunes
etched in the minds of all his fans all these years.
Song after song, the audience listened, spell bound
at the immensely talented artiste on stage, so apparently
humble to see the large gathering in front of him, ardent
fans that had obviously awaited his arrival with such
enthusiasm.
The show was well worth waiting for,
with incredible melodies and heartfelt lyrics.
Mixing modern technology and experimenting
with music may have been done with the best of intentions.
It certainly brought out the best in the latest hit
single Kandula which was sung twice to an applauding
audience at the show.
Keerthi Gee was incredible, unique, elegant and well
organized. It reestablished Keerthi Pasquel at the forefront
of the Sri Lankan music scene as a charming, gentle
singer with a different flavour. Obviously, an incredibly
gifted artiste who can make an everlasting impression
in the minds of people who appreciate music in its truest
sense…”
The following congratulatory messages
regarding the show were received from his numerous fans
and well-wishers.
a) “Kandula” - the most popular show of
Keerthi Pasquel held on 26th February 2005 at the B.M.I.C.H.
– one of the most amazing and exciting shows that
a Sri Lankan artiste organized with international standards.
The stage set-up with the talented orchestra impressed
the audience where Keerthi’s fans will expect
a repeat show.
Congratulations “Keerthi”
the golden star of Sri Lanka –
Rajiv and Ingrid Dias”
b) “Congratulations Keerthi –
Firstly I should say a big “congratulations”
for the lovely performance, which went very well. I
am sure every single person who attended the show enjoyed
the time spent there that eve. You became an example
to the society being so generous in organizing a show
and spending your valuable time to make it a success.
“Nil Ahas Thale” which
was sung by you amidst the little ones of the orphanage
was a very eye catching scene of that evening. I am
sure the kids would have enjoyed the moment on stage
with a great singer like you.
You should be applauded to have organized
a show of such a nature for the benefit of the affected
children of the Tsunami.
May god’s blessings be with you
for your future career and success.
Krishanthi Marasinghe”
c) “Dear Keerthi,
I came yesterday for your Keerthi Gee.
So it was lovely hours and after a long time I enjoyed.
You planned it well and did it. I give my wishes to
you and god bless you.
Sandhya Samarasinghe”
d) “Dear Keerthi,
We really enjoyed your show and it
was unique for us. It was a time that we were in a meditation
and I would assure you that we all will be present at
any concert that will be performed by you. I also do
music based in the Negombo area and it’s mostly
western and calypso. So as a musician I really enjoyed
your show and I still cannot forget it. So I thank you
a lot for issuing us invitations and please inform us
in the future if you organize any.
Thank you
Dinesh Perera & friends”
e) “Dear Mr. Pasquel,
Thanks for the invitations issue for
the show. We enjoyed the show and your performance was
excellent. All the songs were good and enjoyable. Thanks
again for organizing such a wonderful concert and joining
hands with us to donate money for a worthy cause.
God bless you
Sharnika”
